My Story and How Lightbeamers Came to Be

I thought I’d share a bit of my story with you — as I am always encouraging you to share your story with your audience.

I realize not all of my listeners/followers really know who I am; you might not know the backstory on why I’m so passionate about storytelling and helping others find their story.

My journey began inside a CBS Television newsroom in Texas… where I was working the absolute worst hours ever trying to cut my teeth in the world of Journalism. I hopped around the southeast to a few different TV stations in the early years of my career — each step trying to land a better job with better pay and better hours.

While I loved those early years -- I learned so much about broadcasting, storytelling, journalism -- I also discovered I was completely in the wrong industry.

I did NOT love network news: The high-stakes pressure of gaining ratings; the rush to beat others stations to the story; the hovering over a police scanner waiting for something catastrophic to happen; the chasing down of criminals to ask them why they killed their brother; It was all just so sensational and catty….. and very quickly, I became disillusioned.

I wanted to focus on the people’s stories…. the stories of the every day Joe who was doing amazing things in the world — teachers, the motivators, the encouragers, the fighters, the winners.

It all came to a head when I got to a point to where I could not take it one more minute.

I used to come home and sigh these deep, heavy sighs…… because I literally could not breathe.

I could not stand the fact I was being a communicator of these dark, news stories that did nothing to fill our world with light.

And so, at the young age of 25 — I walked away with no backup plan. I knew I had to find a way to tell stories that would make my heart happy, but I had no idea how I was going to do that.

My career took a lot of twists and turns from this point on…. I became a video producer and writer and worked in a variety of industries that at one point led me to working at HGTV, Food Network, and DIY.

But even at that height, I was not satisfied, I knew there was more I could be doing with my talent and my desire to use storytelling to bring more positivity to the world.

I evaluated what I did. As a video producer, I was regularly hired to interview people for success stories, transformational videos, and big-time awards. I evaluated the process in which I had developed over the course of 20 years to pull the story from people.

Not everyone gets a producer that comes to your house to ask you the right questions to put your story together into a 2 minute highlight reel …. so How could I replicate my process and teach that to other people?

That’s essentially how LIGHTbeamers was born. I started studying online marketing and figuring out ways to reach a whole new batch of people who needed to learn how to tell their story to effectively reach an audience. I knew I could help them do that.

Creating my online community on Facebook has been one of the most unexpected joys of this whole transformation and process. I’ve had women flood my community who eagerly wanted to learn to share their story and have a bigger impact in the world. They’ve learned to get out of their own way in order to serve other people. They’ve courageously learned to share their story authentically and build their own following.

Which pretty much is how I landed here on Amazon, producing this daily flash briefing. I saw this platform as another way to reach people and teach them what I know.

And I’ve gotta tell you…. getting up in the mornings to record these daily doses of insight has invigorated me in a whole new way. Thinking through my on database of content and knowledge and boil it down to daily 3-4 minutes of wisdom has been a really wonderful challenge that I have absolutely loved.

I hope you are enjoying this flash briefing as much as I love recording it for you! If you do…. I’d be so honored if you left me an honest review. I know it’s an extra step to take but if you click here, you can leave a review right there on the page.

Reviews really help content creators like me get discovered by more people!

Now, it’s your turn — share YOUR story with me. Join my free community on Facebook, the Lightbeamers Community and share your story with me!

I’d love to learn more about you, and help you find ways to get your story out into the world in a positive way.
